Blackpool

Challenge

A full design-and-build assignment set deep inside a bush environment. The ask was a clean, modern space that disappeared into the surrounding vegetation rather than announcing itself.

Approach

Minimalist lines, earthy tones, and a swimming pool placed to sit effortlessly on the land rather than dominate it. The plan was driven by restraint at every scale, from the window openings to the roof eaves.

Materials

• Local basalt stone
• Natural lime render
• Reclaimed hardwood shutters
• Polished concrete floors

Outcome

Refined, minimalist architecture delivered inside rugged natural terrain. Blackpool is the clearest expression of HKM's belief that the best buildings settle, rather than perform.
